Profile

Dr Konstantinos Gkiotsalitis is Assistant Professor and Director of the Railways and Transport Laboratory at the National Technical University of Athens. His research focuses on public transport planning, railway planning and operations, transport planning, fleet management and operations research. From 2012 until 2018 he was conducting transportation R&D at NEC Laboratories Europe (Heidelberg, Germany) with a specific focus on EU and APAC markets. From 2018 until 2022 he was appointed Assistant Professor to the University of Twente, The Netherlands.

He received his Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens on unveiling the mobility patterns of individuals and matching the transportation supply with the travel demand. He also received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and his MSc in Transport and Sustainable Development from Imperial College London and University College London.

He has been involved in several EU and international projects on smart cities, urban mobility, public transport operations, logistics, railway engineering and shared mobility, and has several patent applications in the aforementioned areas. He serves as Editor at Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, Transportation Research Record, Journal of Public Transportation, npj Sustainable Mobility and Transport, and he is the Review Coordinator of the Transit Management and Performance committee (AP010) at the Transportation Research Board. He is the author of the book Public Transport Optimization, Springer Nature, and has co-authored more than 60 publications to peer-reviewed scientific journals.
